Gai Jatra is a festival celebrated in Nepal mainly in Kathmandu valley by Newar community. The festival commemorates the death of people during the year and mainly celebrated in August-September. The date is set according to lunar calendar and it falls on the first day of dark fortnight of the month of Gunla. It is also called “Sa Paru”.
Adhyayan School, with the aim of teaching the students the importance and significance of the festival, had a small Gai Jatra celebration. Students were practically shown how the procession is done and how they dress up for the march. They really enjoyed the learning process, the costumes and the face painting.
