Maghe Sankranti is considered as one of the most celebrated festivals in Nepali culture. It is also observed by all the communities of Nepal as the major harvest festival. The people in the Hilly region celebrate it with great zeal and enthusiasm and ‘yam’ and ‘Sweet potato’ is considered as the major cuisine. In Newar community, the married women are invited by their parents for a grand feast and they are given a good massage with mustard oil and fed with ‘ Chaku and til ko laddoo’. This festival also marks the transition phase between winter to summer.
